On the 26th of October 2017, the Romanian Border Police and UTI Grup, two members of the consortium developing the SafeShore project, attended a workshop on “Approaches and trends in international terrorism with possible influence on maritime and port areas” in Constanta, Romania. The workshop was organized by the Constanta Maritime Port Administration, having speakers from the Romanian Ministry of Transport, Romanian Coast Guard, Romanian Immigration Service and Maritime Transport Police.
During the event, Mr. Catalin Preda, representing the Romanian Border Police, presented the challenges that his organization faces while protecting the maritime borders of Romania and of the European Union.
Mr. Mihai Gradinaru, Vicepresident of UTI Grup, presented the SafeShore project and its potential to provide vital solutions for prevention of terrorism. He gave examples of other research projects and EU funding programmes, emphasizing the need for professional cooperation among state, academic and private actors in forwarding the security research and development initiatives.
