Drones have good application in industries associated with GPS, systems mapping, precision agriculture. However there is need for protection from harmful applications, such as drones carrying weapons, trafficking drugs, or potential use as missiles. Small drones are not usually detected by conventional radar. This is the biggest problem of any current security system. The company OPTIX participates in a consortium with several universities, companies and research institutes for the project SAFESHORE to solve this problem by detecting the drones, small boats and people who illegally arrive on the shores of a secure area. Representative Zhelyazko Gagov, director of “Marketing and Sales” in OPTIX discusses the issue in the show Investbook with Doriana Rankova on Bloomberg TV Bulgaria.
In his words, Europe has always been directing attention to its security sector. Thus some of the project’s research is kept classified in line with European guidelines intend on defending EU borders.
Just several days ago, the US have adopted a new regulatory instrument concerning the regulation of civilian drones, according to which there will be a need of authorization for flights over 300 feet height, and for the use of such systems 30 minutes before sunrise and after sundown, said the expert.
